More Uses for Duct Tape

Tyler Burke March 31, 2017

My studio was recently featured in a Now article about laneway workspaces. Yes, shamefully, that is duct tape for trim. I may have Photoshopped-out some unfinished wiring, also. The real wood trim was delivered last week (you can see it on the floor behind the sofa). Should only take me about two years to get that installed.

Here's an excerpt:

“It’s very serene,” she says of the studio. “You can hear the rain, the wind and the birds so distinctly, and on the best days I feel like I’m commuting to work in a little secret cabin.”

But it’s not perfect. For one, it’s a very solitary existence, but she meets up with her husband in the backyard sometimes for human stimulation. And there’s no running water, which would be useful for anyone using a paintbrush." The full article (which includes the studios of two other local artists) is here.

Spring has sprung.
I walked out to my studio in the backyard for the first time in weeks. The plants weren’t looking so hot—which I can’t entirely blame on my self-isolation 😬—but everything else was the same. It was nice to sit at my desk for
I spend most of my day in bed right now, staring at this light Rooksby broke last month. You would think it would bother me, the exposed lightbulb, but I actually find it more interesting to look at now.
I caught a live one.
And now for one of my favourite photos of Rooksby. I wanted to check her weight so I took her to grocery store. #cabbage #patch #kid

I have also had a lot of time to think about good things and boring things. I’ve undone years of crossword sobriety by logging at least 17 games yesterday. 19 ACROSS: Stay safe. SOLUTION: Stay ho
One of my all-time favourite photos of Hugo popped up in my Facebook feed this morning. I present: RECLINING DUDE.
Rooksby standing in the dirt, wearing white stockings, telling me something serious. Hugo a vision in stripes.

Chiller than thou. 😂
Rooksby freestyling her bread after I assembled the @nytcooking’s no-knead bread for the first time. We’re going to have a taste test tomorrow.
I started an easy no-knead bread last night and finished it this morning. I carried the Dutch oven to the counter and blindly grabbed a napkin from the drawer. It was one my mother gave me years ago, one made by my Italian great-grandmother. I’
I bid on this painting on a whim about a year ago. It was an online auction website and I was the only bidder. I liked it partly because my mom’s name VAL appeared prominently on the canvas. I also just liked it.
